Marika Somogyi first trained at Budapest College of Fine Arts before going to the United States. There she studied at the University of California under Robert Arneson and attended a master class with Arnaldo Pomodoro. She was a guest artist and lecturer at the International Medallic Art Workshop at Pennsylvania State University.

Her works are in the permanent collections of the British Museum, Smithsonian Institute and the Art Museums of Berlin, Nuremberg, Dresden, Lisbon, Stockholm and Budapest. Numerous commissions include 1991 and the 2001 Commemorative Silver Dollars. Medals for the San Francisco Opera, the British Art Medal Society, the Society of Medalists, the Magnes Museum and the Brookgreen Gardens, Placido Domingo Award, Maurice Spertus Award. Charlie Chaplin, Sherlock Holmes, Marc Chagall, Eleanor Roosevelt memorial medals.

Marika has exhibited in New York, Colorado Springs, Stockholm, Helsinki, Santa Fe, Hague, London, Budapest, Paris, and Florence.

She is the recipient of several awards including the American Numismatic Association Excellence in American Medallic Art Award.
