Bio
Anne-Lise Deering was born in Norway and came to the USA after finishing school. She studied art with a ceramic major at Penn State University and got her BA degree in 1977. She worked for several years as a potter in her own studio in State College, PA until she was introduced to bas relief and medallic sculpture. After she moved to Edmonds, WA in 1999 her focus has mainly been on sculpture and medallic art. Currently she serves as president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association. Her medals have been widely exhibited in the USA and Canada and international group exhibitions throughout Europe.
Her work is in many private collections in the USA and abroad. Many of Anne-Lise’s medals are an expression of her emotions in dealing with life’s unhappy blow’s. “The Sink and Swim” series was inspired by her husband’s unfaithfulness and the break-up of her marriage, then by her daughter’s and her own breast cancer surgeries followed shortly thereafter by the death of her mother in Norway. Other medals like the “Cabin in the Woods” are from happy memories when her oldest son built a log cabin in the woods of central PA.
