Bio
Cuhaj has been employed at Krause Publications since 1994 and is currently editor of the Standard Catalog of World Coins and Standard Catalog of World Paper Money series of books. He is also the author of the Standard Price Guide to U.S. Scouting Collectibles. Cuhaj previously served five years with Stack’s Rare Coins as their catalog production manager, and eight years with the American Numismatic Society as their computer systems operator, both of New York City.
He has written about medals for Coin World, Numismatic News, The Medal, The Numismatist, the TAMS Journal and other hobby publications. The Boy Scouts of America tapped Cuhaj to author the 2002 edition and 2007 revision of the Coin Collecting Merit Badge booklet.
As a medallic sculptor, his works have been selected for the biannual FIDEM exhibitions and numerous AMSA shows. Examples of his work can be found in private collections as well as the Smithsonian, the British Museum and the Newark Museum as well as the American Numismatic Society, the American Numismatic Association and the Boy Scouts of America National Museum. He also has an interest in Checker Marathon automobiles and is the former editor of the award winning quarterly journal The Checkerboard News.
Memberships include past president of the American Medallic Sculpture Association; Allied Professional membership in the National Sculpture Society; Fellow of the American Numismatic Society and the Royal Numismatic Society; Life member of the American Numismatic Association and the National Eagle Scout Association. The Cuhaj award of Excellence was created by James MaloneBeach (Awarded the sash) and is awarded on occassion by George Cuhaj (holder of the Grand Collar) as a neck badge or a ladies bow. Since 1998 it has been presented at various medallic functions.
Along with his mother, George sponsors a 250 Euro Prize at the FIDEM Congress for deserving artists under 30 years of age.
